Coaches and Buddies

We recognise that when our youngest children come in to school for the first time, this can sometimes be a daunting time for them. We want to minimise any anxieties that some of the children sometimes experience, as much as we can and for them to feel safe, happy and worry-free, and to enjoy every minute they spend at school. Every member of our school-family at All Saints’ is concerned to do all they can to ensure the children are content.

To further help the new Reception children to settle in to school life quickly, we also have a system in place whereby they are allocated a ‘buddy’ from our Year 6 class. The older children spend time with the younger ones, forming a helpful relationship. At the start of the school year the older children help their buddies at lunch time to get their lunches and sit in the dinner hall, they often sit together during masses and assemblies, and check up on them in the playground to make sure they are happy and playing with friends, we make time for the buddies to share books together.

Both the older and younger children benefit enormously from this arrangement, each of them is always delighted to see their buddy and this special bond often lasts beyond the Year 6 children leaving our school.
